Plymouth

Impromptu trips to nearby locations is so easy. Just about everything is a short train ride away. We weren’t quite sure what to expect from Plymouth, but we knew there was an aquarium and a lighthouse so that was good enough for us to check it out. Plymouth is about an hour ride from Exeter.

One bonus find was a statue of Poseidon which happens to be Bodhi’s favorite Greek god. He was obsessed with the Percy Jackson books, ripping through the series at a break neck pace. So appropriate for this seaside town.

If anything, the Brits are brilliant when it comes kids. They embrace the child’s mentality and imagination in ways we haven’t encountered in the states. The aquarium is a good example of this. Though not the biggest one we’ve too the creativity and flow of the space made the aquarium feel expansive, made us feel we were indeed traversing an underwater space. The exhibits were informative, but the little outdoor breaks with stuff to climb on is just what every kids needs to get through the more grown up adventures. Bodhi and his uncontained energy jumped and crawled and leapt on and off of pirate structures, screaming Parkour, something was currently obsessed with. I, on the other hand, liked going outside to get some cooler, fresh air. Ira liked to go outside and watch the world pass by, always enamored by the UK sky.

It was less than 2 hours get through the entire aquarium, which left plenty of time to check out other things in Plymouth. Stay tuned to read about our first real afternoon tea!
